Hao Shen was born and raised in Ningbo, China. He earned his B.S. in Chemistry from ShanghaiTech University. As an exchange student, he spent his senior year at the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign, where he conducted research on natural product synthesis in the laboratory of Professor David Sarlah. After graduating, Hao joined the laboratory of Professor John L. Wood at Baylor University, where he earned his Ph.D. studying the total synthesis of highly caged natural products. He is now continuing to pursue his passion for organic synthesis as a postdoctoral scholar in the laboratory of Professor Sarah Reisman at Caltech. Outside the lab, Hao enjoys playing video games, going to the beach, and spending time with his family.
