Chung was born and raised in Ulsan, South Korea. He studied chemistry at UC Berkeley, where he worked in Prof. Jeffrey Long’s group developing pyrazolate-bridged metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for industrially-relevant gas separations and hydrogen storage. After experiencing the inorganic/materials side of chemistry, Chung decided to get a taste of wonderous world of synthetic organic chemistry and joined the Reisman Group.
